Vegetarian Culinary Education

So you want to be a chef? You have decided that you don't want to be just any chef, but a vegetarian chef. Now what? Where will you get you vegetarian culinary education? How will you pay for it? Here are some tips on what to do next to pursue your vegetarian culinary education.

1. Do you know the difference between vegetarian and vegan cuisine? Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish or poultry. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products. You will need to know this information when choosing a school if you want a vegan certification as well.

2. Does the school have federal and state financial aid? Some schools are great to further your vegetarian culinary education; but are private institutions that do not accept financial aid. Unless you are paying in cash, better make sure the school you pick takes financial aid.

3. Do you want to attend a physical institution or an online course of study? Be honest with yourself here. Sitting in your jammies going to school sounds inviting, but what if you are in the middle of a chocolate mousse in YOUR kitchen and need an instructor's assistance?

4. What are the credentials of the school you are considering? If you want to be a certified vegetarian chef, the school you attend must be certified. You may take classes and gain the skills necessary to be a chef, but certification for employment purposes require an accredited school.

5. Be wary of schools that sound too good to be true. Check the reputation of the school you are considering. Talk to previous students who have graduated in the past. Are they employed now? Did they have any problems with the school? Don't overlook a previous student as a source of information.

By the time you receive your vegetarian culinary education for your vegetarian recipes, you will have the knowledge and capacity and to put together the perfect vegetarian dish. This will allow you to move forward in supporting others who do not support eating meat and who desire to have different dishes and options for recipes offered to them. The end result will be your ability to become a strong professional in a new way of eating.
